Join our Voluntary Committee!

Dundee Ceramics Workshop (DCW) are looking for new volunteer committee members to  join our community of artists and clay enthusiasts. This opportunity includes assisting with  the running of our workshop and contributing to the development and vision for DCW.

Together as a team, the committee’s role is to plan and organise events/projects that fulfill our charitable objectives in a way that is also fulfilling to you! Whether that’s organising community workshops, social events or helping to spruce up the workshop, you’ll have the creative freedom to explore anything that takes your fancy.

Our Charitable Objectives:

  1. To support the advancement of education (according to section b of the Charitable Purposes 2005 Act) through providing space, events and facilities for artists to work and develop, both within their own practice, and in working with the local community. We will also provide internship programmes for recent graduates and work closely with Dundee’s two universities to provide educational experiences, such as exhibition opportunities, artists talks and professional development opportunities, for their students.
  2. To advance the arts and culture, (according to section g of the Charitable Purposes 2005 Act) both in Dundee and on a national and even international platform. We aim to provide artists with what they need to continue their professional practice after leaving formal education, in an atmosphere of community, learning, mutual support and collaboration. We also aim to advance culture by regularly hosting public exhibitions, participative workshops and events, providing the public with access to a wide range of cultural activities.

Examples of past committee projects include:

  • Designing and creating our Clay Kits
  • Commissioning an artist to paint a mural in 216
  • Holding our ‘Scottish Maker & Artisan Raffle’
  • Planning and holding our EH9 Mug Painting Events
  • Recruiting a ‘Graduate Intern’ and working with them to facilitate the development of their ceramics practice
  • Organising and attending markets alongside our members (eg DCA Crafted and Wasps Open weekends)

Committee Duties

  • Working as a team and communicating effectively
  • Planning informal committee meetings/catch ups and keeping note of what was discussed within the shared google drive
  • Creating a yearly plan of events/projects
  • Fundraising to fund committee activity
  • Cash handling & managing a budget
  • Attending monthly meetings to provide updates to the full team
  • Positively representing DCW in public
  • Contributing to the development and vision for Tin Roof and DCW
  • Reaching out to staff for help/advice when needed

As a committee member you’ll have access to your own shared google workspace account which includes email, word processing programs and zoom.

There will also be additional opportunities to assist with operational tasks such as opening the workshop for members, assisting with funding applications and social media content, however these are optional. If there are any particular areas of running the workshop that you’d be interested in learning more about, this can be discussed with staff.

Requirements:

Applicants must be based in or near Dundee. No formal education or qualifications are  necessary but applicants must demonstrate an interest and/or understanding of ceramics  and a willingness to learn.

We have high expectations of our committee members, and they should be honest, reliable,  trustworthy and responsible. In return, they have access to the workshop (Standard Membership) and are welcome to sit in on/help with classes, learning valuable ceramics skills and networking with other ceramicists.

If  selected, you will be given an induction to the space; support and guidance; health and safety training; and opportunities for formal qualifications and training if interested.

DCW is a Tin Roof project and charity run by volunteers who are active artists and makers in  Dundee.
