Wednesday the 21st of February between 18:00 – 20:30
In this workshop artist Maria Howard will show you how to make your own set of splashback tiles for a kitchen, bathroom or studio. Participants will roll out thin slabs and cut them into square or rectangle tiles. They will then decorate them using techniques such as painting, sgraffito and slip trailing, to create a repeating pattern or an overarching design or a tiled mural.
The final tile area (before shrinkage) will be 60 x 40 cm. Please note this is a very rudimentary way of making tiles – DCW staff are unable to make sure they dry evenly after the workshop so the end product may not be completely flat. This should not cause a problem for installation with the usual adhesive and grout but should be taken into account if participants are planning to intersperse their designs with shop bought tiles.
Please bring sketches or at least ideas for a design or pattern before the workshop to save time.
The workshop is designed for all skill levels – beginners and children are more than welcome!
*under 16’s must be accompanied by an adult/
