Our workshop is opened weekly by our wonderful team of volunteers so that our members can access our facilities. Whether you’d just like access to our kilns, pop in to use our wheels or purchase materials, we have the perfect membership for you.

Membership Options
Perfect for those that want to create work at home and bring it in to be fired, or to access the workshop as needed with our pay as you go pop in fee. Access is available during our opening times.
MONTHLY PLAN: £5/month (£60/year)
ANNUAL PLAN: £54
This suits those that want to access the workshop in a more casual manner with 8 pop ins per month & £5 kiln credits per month included. Extra pop ins can be purchased if and when required. Perfect for students/hobbyists. Access is available during our opening times.
MONTHLY PLAN: £35/month (£420/year)

With 16 pop in sessions and £10 kiln credits per month, this membership is best suited for budding potters looking to routinely use the workshop facilities. Access is available during our opening times.
MONTHLY PLAN: £45/month (£540/year)

If you’re an experienced potter looking for open access to the workshop, this is the membership for you! Proof of ability is required (attended a minimum of 16hrs of classes at the workshop, within a similar setting or through university/college.) Access is available 24hrs outside of classes and £15 kiln credits per month are included. Please send us an application below, and if successful we’ll send you a link to sign up.

** Kiln credits renew each month and will not be carried over. Firing costs that exceed your total available kiln credits can be paid by cash, PayPal or BACS. Kiln credits cannot be transferred to another member.

Kiln Bookings
Our Kiln is available to book by Dundee Ceramic Workshop members – if you would like to fire in our kiln, you need to join as a member first. Full terms and conditions and prices can be found here.
A firing form must be included with any work submitted to the workshop for firing. You can download one here.
Please note that, due to demand, it can take between 6-8 weeks for work to be fired, particularly at busier times of year. Large quantities of work, or work that is larger in size or shape, may take longer than our standard time to fire. We ask that you keep this in mind when working to deadlines – we’ll do our best to accommodate should you need work by a certain date.
To hire the whole kiln for firing the prices are the following:
Full Kiln Hire
Bisque – £70.00
Glaze – £80.00
Communal Kiln Firings
Bisque (1000c*) – £1.00 per litre cubed
Glaze (cone 6*) – £1.50 per litre cubed
*please note – we cannot accommodate other firing temperatures in our standard communal firings
Shelf Damage Costs
These apply to both full kiln hire and communal kiln firings
Minor damage (ie small drip that can be scraped off, cookies that can’t be removed from work) – £10.00
Significant damage (ie. pot fully stuck to shelf which can’t be removed easily and causes lasting damage to shelf) – £25.00
Shelf replacement – £65.00

Where can I find the opening times?
Our opening times are updated weekly on a Sunday, they’re posted on our social media pages and updated on our booking site.
I’ve sent an email and need a response ASAP!
We are run by a very small team of staff and volunteers, and though we strive to get back to everyone as soon as possible, we cannot guarantee a response within a day. Please take a good look at our website to be sure your question cannot be answered there. Please note, we are far more likely to be able to answer questions via email rather than DM’s on any of our social media.
How long will my work take to be finished and fired?
We will email you when your work is ready to collect. Your wait can vary depending on how busy the studio has been, but between 4-8 weeks is an average wait time. This is sometimes longer during festive periods. Please note, if you do not collect your work within two months of the date you are emailed and don’t get in touch with us to arrange an alternative, we do not have the storage space to keep your items indefinitely.
What glazes can I use at DCW?
We bisque fire to 1000’c and glaze fire to 1200’C, using stoneware clay and glazes. However, you may use your own glazes with specific firing/temperature requirements if you book the full kiln. Here’s a link to a spreadsheet where you can view the materials we have in the workshop.
I need my work fired by a certain date – can you guarantee this?
We aim to do one bisque and one glaze firing each week. However, large quantities of work, or work that is larger in size or shape, may take longer than our standard two weeks to fire. We ask that you keep this in mind when working to deadlines – we’ll do our best to accommodate you should you need work by a certain date, however we can’t always guarantee this with our small studio space.
