Unveiling the Beauty in Imperfections: Join ceramicist Akiko Matsuda in our upcoming Kintsugi Class! ✨
Join us as we delve into the ancient Japanese art of repairing ceramics with gold-laced lacquer, celebrating flaws as part of the story. In this hands-on class, you’ll learn to mend your own cherished ceramic pieces, infusing them with new life and profound meaning.
What to bring:
- A broken ceramic object (broken into a maximum of 5 pieces)
Please note, items that are repaired will not be food safe, however decorative tableware/vases can be brought along.
Akiko is originally from Tokyo, Japan. She was introduced to painting,
calligraphy, music and pottery when she was a child and she studied
ceramic sculpture at Tama art university in Tokyo.
After working as a ceramicist in London for 5 years, she’s currently
based in Dundee temporarily, focusing on exploring wood firing
techniques in the family farm in Kirriemuir.
Most of her work is produced on the wheel but she also likes to use
other techniques such as handbuilding and slip decoration. She enjoys
the designing process and because of her background is in ceramic
sculpture, she likes her work to blur the boundaries of pottery and
sculpture work. Akiko will always be there to help your designs come
to light. Her passion for ceramic will continue to uncover the new
shape and share the joy of learning to everyone’s life.
